HOW TO START AN ART COLLECTION ON A BUDGET
From ‘Homes to Love’, read article here
These days you don't need thousands of dollars to adorn your walls with beautiful works of art. With plenty of places offering affordable original works and prints, some of which can be downloaded straight to your computer and printed and framed yourself, there are endless options for buyers with a tight budget.
Remember, the term 'art' is not restricted to original (and expensive) oil-paintings that you'd only find hanging in a gallery. Photography, graphic design, prints, sculptures and ceramics are all forms of art so, if you're not a fan of whimsical watercolour works, there are plenty of other styles that might appeal to you.
To get your art collection off to a shining start without breaking the bank, we asked some gallerists exhibiting at the upcoming Affordable Art Fair Sydney (2-5 June 2022) to share their tips on starting an art collection on a budget because let's face it, we can't all afford to have an original Picasso hanging on our wall.

Payment plans
If you find a piece you love but don't quite have the funds to buy it on the spot, see if the seller is partnered with Art Money, who offer interest-free loans for art purchases from $500 to $100,000.
"I love offering this financing option, allowing clients to pay over 10 months with no interest," says Sarah Birtles. "The best part is you get to take the artwork home after the first payment!"
Keep an eye out for emerging artists
"Look for galleries championing emerging artists," suggests Sarah. "Often these lesser-known names are more affordable choices. Going through a gallery provides you with a hand-selected edit by the gallerist, it also ensures you can be confident in the quality of materials and durability of the artwork," she adds.
